Celtics ‘actively engaged’ in Jaylen Brown trade talks

That doesn’t necessarily mean a deal is imminent.

Charania noted that Brown’s supermax contract, which has roughly $183 million remaining over the next three seasons, could complicate negotiations. He also suggested “the urgency from either side could change as the weeks go on.”

Brown’s future has been under the microscope ever since reports surfaced that the Celtics included him in trade talks with the Bucks before Giannis Antetokounmpo was ultimately dealt to the Heat.

Boston president of basketball operations Brad Stevens acknowledged that he met with Brown before those discussions became public.

“We certainly wanted to be as proactive and up-front with that as possible,” Stevens said. “I thought we had really good, candid conversations.”

Stevens also called Brown “a big part of us” while stopping short of guaranteeing he’ll remain in Boston.

Meanwhile, Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix reported that trade conversations involving Brown continued Tuesday, with some calls initiated by rival teams and others by the Celtics.

“They are hunting a big man,” one NBA executive told Mannix. “And they are willing to trade [Brown] to get it.”

Several teams have already surfaced in speculation, including the Rockets and Hawks. Mannix also mentioned the Cavaliers as a theoretical fit if Cleveland were ever willing to discuss Evan Mobley, though there has been no indication the Cavs are interested in moving the former Defensive Player of the Year.

Today, Brown remains a Celtic. The trade chatter, however, appears to be far from over.
