The Boston Celtics have only seen Kristaps Porzingis for 40 games this season. That's what's made their 57-20 record all the more impressive, knowing many of those wins were without him.
It's not Porzingis' fault for his absences. He missed a good chunk of the start of the season while recovering from ankle surgery. He then missed several more games, not because of injury, but because of illness.
He has been able to play more games in recent weeks, though he has missed some time for reconditioning. It appears the Celtics will have to go up against the Wizards without Porzingis on again Sunday.
On their injury report, the Celtics announced that Porzingis will miss the game for the same reason he has missed multiple games: a non-COVID illness.
He is joined on the injury report by Jayson Tatum who has also been ruled out, and Jaylen Brown who was upgraded from questionable to available with a right knee issue.
Celtics Injury Report Update vs. Washington:
— Boston Celtics (@celtics) April 6, 2025
Jaylen Brown - Right Knee Posterior Impingement - QUESTIONABLE
Kristaps Porzingis - Illness (Non-Covid) - OUT
Jayson Tatum - Left Ankle Sprain - OUT https://t.co/ewokZQ3YKl
While the Celtics won't be whole in their upcoming game, the Wizards will also be undermanned when they go up against the Celtics. Both Khris Middleton and Malcolm Brogdon won't play due to their current injuries.
Porzingis has been as good as the Celtics could have hoped for this season. In 40 games, he's averaged 19.3 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks a game while shooting 48.5% from the field and 40.4% from three. Even though the Celtics survived without him for most of last year's title run, they want him healthy as they attempt to repeat as NBA champions.
