Celtics Aren’t Finding Traction In Jaylen Brown Trade

The Celtics are encountering a disappointing trade market as they try to work out a deal involving Jaylen Brown, according to Sam Amick of The Athletic.

Amick suggests that Boston may have to lower its asking price of four first-round picks, along with players. The team reportedly hasn’t been making much progress on finding a new home for Brown since it lost to Miami in the pursuit of Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Amick adds that there’s “some interest” in Brown around the league, but not at the level the Celtics were expecting. He updates the state of negotiations with a few reported suitors:

  • League sources tell Amick that the Trail Blazers’ desire to deal for Brown is “moderate, at best.” He hears from sources close to the trade talks that Portland’s offers have been nowhere near what the Celtics are seeking in return.
  • Amick states that the Nuggets considered pursuing a Brown deal, but haven’t spoken to Celtics officials since the weekend. Team sources describe Denver’s level of interest as “significantly overstated,” and Amick notes that the Nuggets don’t have the collection of draft assets that Boston wants and seemingly wouldn’t be willing to part with them in a Brown deal even if they did.
  • The Nets currently aren’t talking to the Celtics about a potential Brown trade and don’t appear to be considering it, according to Amick’s sources.

Amick states that many league observers are wondering how the Celtics will proceed if they can’t find an acceptable offer and notes that “serious relationship rehabilitation” will be necessary if Brown remains in Boston.
