The Boston Celtics will have some priorities this offseason. Most notably, they will decide who they will trade to get under the NBA's second tax apron. However, they also have some players entering free agency whom they will ponder whether to keep.
Al Horford, Luke Kornet, and Torrey Craig are among the said free agents. Horford and Kornet have been with the Celtics for a lot longer than Craig, and they will want to maintain their frontcourt depth, so they may prioritize keeping those two more than him.
However, that doesn't mean re-signing Craig is out of the question. Craig was a midseason addition who provided the team with some wing depth. He sounded like he hadn't closed the door on returning to Boston next season.
When asked about his future with the Celtics, Craig said nothing definitive, but he sounded like he wasn't opposed to staying.
“I guess we’ll cross that path when we get there,“ Craig told MassLive's Souichi Terada. ”I have to sit down with my representatives, my agents and talk things through and see the options. But I wouldn’t mind re-signing here.”
Should the Celtics re-sign him, Craig could help the Celtics' wing depth, as Jayson Tatum will likely be out for most of, if not the entirety, of the 2024-25 season because of his Achilles tear.
Craig wasn't featured much when the Celtics had their squad fully healthy, but he played a fair amount of minutes when the team was down a player or two. With Tatum out, Craig would likely get more playing time in Boston until the Celtics star returns.
