Celtics interested in reunion with veteran point guard Isaiah Thomas?

NBA free agency begins Monday at 6 p.m. ET, and there are already reports linking a veteran point guard to the Boston Celtics.

According to NBA reporter Marc Stein, the Celtics are interested in a reunion with Isaiah Thomas with new president of basketball operations Brad Stevens "known to be one of Thomas' biggest fans."

Thomas spent two and a half seasons with the Celtics before being sent to the Cleveland Cavaliers as part of the Kyrie Irving trade prior to the 2017-18 campaign.

Since then, it's been hard for Thomas to stay healthy and find playing time. Since leaving Boston, he's played for five different teams, most recently a short stint with the New Orleans Pelicans last season.

Thomas spent the 2019-20 campaign with the Washington Wizards, averaging 12.2 points, 1.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game while shooting 40.8% from the field.

The 32-year-old would likely come off the bench for Boston and be a veteran mentor for the team's younger players. Right now, there doesn't seem like a downside to a potentially inexpensive deal for the guard.

Celtics fans love Thomas, and he'd likely be welcomed back with open arms.

Boston has been pretty active on the market thus far, trading Kemba Walker to the Oklahoma City Thunder for Al Horford, acquiring Josh Richardson from the Dallas Mavericks, and reportedly agreeing to acquire forward Bruno Fernando and point guard Kris Dunn in a three-team trade that will send center Tristan Thompson to the Sacramento Kings.
