Celtics’ Jaylen Brown gets a wild endorsement from Kendrick Perkins

The Boston Celtics currently hold a 2-0 lead over the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference Finals. Jayson Tatum has led his team so far through the postseason and they look primed for a championship. However, Kendrick Perkins turned heads on Friday after sharing a rather wild take about Jaylen Brown.

During a segment on First Take, Perkins believes that Brown, not Tatum, is the best player on the Celtics. Perkins makes his argument based on Jaylen Brown showing up big in the playoffs this year. But considering Jayson Tatum finished the year on the All-NBA first team while Brown didn’t make a single team this year, it’s a bit of an absurd take from the former center.

“The statement he’s (Jaylen Brown) been trying to make all postseason long. That he’s the best player on the Boston Celtics, he’s the best player on the Boston Celtics and he’s willing to stand on business. Last night was a prime example of a guy taking it personal and responding in great fashion. We may try to downplay it but we could see it in his face that he’s pissed off that he didn’t make an All-NBA team and how he handled it, alright, y’all take this 40 piece.”

When it comes down to it, both Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown are great players. But to claim Brown is the better option for the Celtics is just absurd. Even if Brown is stepping his game up during the postseason. That’s exactly what Boston needs but Tatum is still very much the best player on the roster. Just look at their season averages!

Tatum finished the regular season averaging 26. 9 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 4.9 assists per game while shooting a 47.1 field goal percentage. Meanwhile, Brown averaged 23 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game off of a 49.9 field goal percentage. There’s a reason why Jayson Tatum was on the All-NBA first team while Jaylen Brown wasn’t.

And that’s not taking anything away from Jaylen Brown. He’s been a stud for the Celtics. He hit a big three late in Game 1 to force overtime that helped Boston secure the win. Brown stepped up big in Game 2 after finishing with 40 points, five rebounds, and two assists. Boston needs both Tatum and Brown if they hope to win a championship and at the end of the day, that’s all that matters.

Can Celtics sweep the Pacers?

After two games the Indiana Pacers don’t look like they know how to slow down the Celtics. Boston is essentially scoring at will with Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown leading the way. After taking a 2-0 series lead, it looks more and more like Boston will be playing in the NBA Finals in June.

They still have two wins to earn though before clinching the Eastern Conference. The Pacers won’t go down without a fight but Tyrese Haliburton’s injury could be a major problem. If Haliburton is unable to play in Game 3 the Celtics very well could take a demanding 3-0 series lead.

We’ll see how it plays out but everything is favoring Boston right now. Look for the Celtics to come hot out of the gate in Game 3 as they aim to demolish any hope the Pacers have. If Boston can do that, then this series will be all but over.
