The Celtics’ three-point attack has become known as “Mazzulla Ball” in recent seasons. That could change this year.
With Jrue Holiday, Kristaps Porziņgis and Al Horford gone — and Jayson Tatum expected to miss most of the season — Boston may need to lean more on two-point scoring.
But coach Joe Mazzulla said he doesn’t spend any time worrying about the nickname or its supposed style.
“I don’t really put too much thought into that,” Mazzulla said, via Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe. “We find the two-on-one and the most important thing is executing at both ends of the floor.
“I hope it turns into Celtics basketball. I’m not the one who’s playing. It’s the players that are executing.”
Assistant coach Sam Cassell recently called this “the most difficult training camp” of his 34-year NBA career. Mazzulla didn’t exactly agree.
“Everything in this world today is recency bias,” he said. “Every time is the best ever. We don’t remember how we felt last year or two years ago.
“None of that really matters. It depends on where you’re at in the moment.”
