Celtics, Jordan Walsh Agree To Three-Year Extension

Charania pegs the value of the new deal at $15MM, while Haynes says it’ll be worth $16MM. Either way, it’ll take effect in 2027/28 after Walsh earns about $2.41MM this season in the final year of his first NBA contract.

According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype (Twitter link), the extension will be fully guaranteed for two years, with a team option for ’29/30.

Walsh didn’t play much as a rookie after being selected 38th overall in the 2023 draft out of Arkansas. However, he saw more action in his second season and then emerged as a consistent part of Boston’s rotation in his third year, averaging 17.8 minutes per game over the course of 68 regular season outings (25 starts) in 2025/26.

Walsh contributed 5.4 points and 4.0 rebounds per game with a .509/.384/.772 shooting line this past season. A high-energy player and versatile defender, he stands at around 6’6″ but has a wingspan of 7’2″, allowing him to guard multiple positions.

While the deals have been overshadowed by flashier moves like the Jaylen Brown/Paul George trade and the signing of Mitchell Robinson, the Celtics have now agreed to long-term contracts this offseason with three of their recent developmental success stories — in addition to extending Walsh, the club also signed forward Ron Harper Jr. to a four-year, $13.7MM contract and completed a four-year, $56MM extension for big man Neemias Queta.

As our tracker shows, there haven’t been many extensions finalized so far during the 2026/27 NBA league year. Walsh will become just the fifth player to sign a contract extension since the calendar flipped to July, including the fourth to sign a veteran extension. He would have become an unrestricted free agent next summer if he hadn’t reached an extension agreement.
