Celtics might steal Lakers' preferred free-agency target

The Boston Celtics couldn't get their hands on Giannis Antetokounmpo and traded Jaylen Brown to a direct rival.

Suffice to say, Celtics fans might not necessarily be ecstatic with president of basketball operations Brad Stevens and his latest train of thought. However, the offseason is just getting started, and the Celtics still have plenty of opportunities to work on the things that hurt Joe Mazzulla's team last season.

According to Bleacher Report's Dan Favale, that might include adding an athletic two-way wing like Jonathan Kuminga.

The Celtics might make a run at Jonathan Kuminga

“Boston Celtics team president Brad Stevens has made it his mission to add rim pressure over the offseason,” Favale wrote. “That largely explains Beantown’s dalliance with Giannis Antetokounmpo.”

While Kuminga might not provide the shooting Mazzulla usually preaches, his athleticism and promise on defense could be just what this team needs.

“Though Boston cannot count on Kuminga for lights-out spacing, it has the stretch elsewhere to open up the floor for his drives and isos. The Celtics would still be betting on his improvement as a rebounder and defender, but he showed progress last season in the former department,” added Favale.

To make it even sweeter, Kuminga is reportedly the Los Angeles Lakers' primary free-agency target right now, so they would also be stealing a top reinforcement from their most hated rival. Clearly, Kuminga is no Giannis Antetokounmpo or Jaylen Brown, but he's a former top-10 pick who hasn't even reached his prime. He could end up as this team's next big gamble and star if it works out.
