This is not the news that the struggling Boston Celtics wanted to share with the season coming to an end. Star guard Jaylen Brown, absent for the past three games due to a wrist injury, will be lost for the remainder of the campaign.

The announcement came via social media initially and promises to shake up the foundation of the Eastern Conference playoff race.

The 24-year-old was in the midst of a breakout season for an otherwise struggling Celtics team before going down to injury. He’ll finish the campaign averaging 24.7 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.4 assists on 48% shooting from the field.

For the Celtics, this is just another major blow as they look to right the ship before a likely appearance in the play-in tournament. Boston finds itself at a pedestrian 35-33 on the campaign with four games remaining. If the season were to end today, Boston would take on star rookie LaMelo Ball and the Charlotte Hornets in the play-in tournament.
