Shaquille O’Neal is 52 years old. Charles Barkley is 61. Yet, while going over the highlights from games on Tuesday night on TNT’s broadcast, the beloved pair of Hall of Famers and analysts were transformed into teenagers.
And it is all because Raptors second-year guard Gradey Dick had a career high against the Bucks, ringing up 32 points on 7-for20 shooting, 4-for-10 from the 3-point line. On the year, last year’s No. 13 pick is now averaging 20.1 points per game, up from 8.5 last season.
But Barkley, in commenting on the performance, could not help himself.
“This boy is balling, right here, y’all,” Barkley said.
When O’Neal said, “Who?” Barkley did not hesitate.
“I can’t say his name,” Barkley said. “I just can’t say his name. I am not gonna say his name, I don’t care what y’all say. It’s Gradey. I am not gonna say that man’s last name.”
Meanwhile, O’Neal can be heard in the background, laughing so hard he begins to cough, and left speechless for several seconds amid Barkley’s squeamish commentary.
“Gradey, you balling!” Barkley said.

Ever the adult in the room, Ernie Johnson noted, “It’s like we stepped back into middle school.”
Around the league, Dick has been one of the most impressive players to open the season from the Class of 2023. As the Raptors have dealt with injuries to Immanuel Quickley and Scottie Barnes, he is leading all sophomores (even No. 1 pick Victor Wembanyama) in scoring thus far.
