Barkley zings Kevin Durant during Joe Harris interview

Charles Barkley seized upon the opportunity during an interview with Brooklyn Nets swingman Joe Harris Thursday night to zing Kevin Durant over the superstar’s standoffish behavior during an appearance earlier this season on “Inside the NBA.”

Harris was making an appearance on the iconic TNT show thanks to his outstanding game in Brooklyn’s 122-109 win over the Philadelphia 76ers.

The Nets were without Kevin Durant (quarantine) and Kyrie Irving (personal reasons) against the Sixers, so Harris’ clutch 28-point, six-rebound, four-assist outing could not have come at a better time.

Barkley hailed Harris as “one of the most underrated players in the league” as the crew peppered the sharpshooter with a few questions. Sir Charles then segued into a riff on how Harris’ responses stood in stark contrast to how Durant comically conducted himself during a postgame interview earlier this season.

“Hey Joe, I just wanna thank you for answering our questions with more than one letter,” Barkley said. “Thank you very much.”

Barkley’s quip undoubtedly was in reference to Durant’s awkward interview following the Nets’ season-opening win over the Golden State Warriors last month, during which the superstar offered up only a one-word response to a Barkley inquiry.

It merits noting that Durant’s haughty attitude toward Barkley may have had something to do with how only days before the interview, the outspoken NBA analyst made a pointed comment about how the Nets would “implode” if they acquired disgruntled Houston Rockets star James Harden.

Put plainly, Barkley speculated that he couldn’t envision three mercurial players like Harden, Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving coexisting on the same team and having it work out.

Further exacerbating any animosity Durant has for Barkley is how the latter has been an unabashed critic of the superstar over the years due to his occasionally enigmatic ways.

Whatever the case, it looks like Barkley will get the last laugh in the uncomfortable Durant drama. For now, at least.
