Charlotte Hornets trade Mark Williams to Phoenix Suns

The Mark Williams saga in Charlotte has officially ended. The Hornets have traded Williams to the Phoenix Suns during the NBA Draft.

Most fans might not know about any problem between Mark Williams and the Charlotte Hornets. It occurred last season when Charlotte attempted to trade Williams to the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Hornets believed the trade was official and that they’d be welcoming Dalton Knecht to Charlotte. Then, the deal was scrapped.

The Lakers claimed Williams failed his physical and the trade was rescinded.

“I would say not surprising with the way the last couple of days have gone in terms of the Lakers even announcing the trade—that taking longer than normal in terms of when it was announced—and then, uh, just Williams not being cleared to play today,” Lakers insider Jovan Buha said.

This time, Williams will not be headed back to Charlotte. The Hornets traded Williams to the Suns in exchange for the 29th pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, which happened to be Liam McNeeley, and a 2029 first-round pick.

Phoenix will likely make more moves before the season starts as they look to move past their disappointing experience with Kevin Durant.
