Chet Holmgren Gets Injury Decision Before Thunder-Timberwolves

The Oklahoma City Thunder will take on the Minnesota Timberwolves at home on Monday night as they look to extend their winning streak to three games.

Monday’s matchup will also be the second game of a back-to-back for both teams. The two franchises squared off against each other in Minnesota on Sunday, with the Thunder coming out victorious 130-123.

For Monday’s matchup, both teams will be shorthanded. Ahead of the game, the Thunder have ruled out Chet Holmgren, as well as Ajay Mitchell and Nikola Topic who continued to be sidelined.

Of course, the Thunder have been cautious with Holmgren since he returned from a hip injury that kept him sidelined for almost three months. Oklahoma City has elected to rest Holmgren during back-to-backs, which is the reason that he is out of Monday’s matchup against Minnesota.

This is a tough blow for the Thunder, but it will not hurt them as much as it could have with the Timberwolves’ frontcourt being beat-up. Minnesota has already ruled out Rudy Gobert for Monday’s game and it is likely that they will also be without Julius Randle, who is questionable with a groin injury that has kept him out since Jan. 30.

With Holmgren out, expect Isaiah Hartenstein to have a larger role in Monday’s game. The Thunder will also have a decision to make on who will enter the starting lineup against the Timberwolves with both Aaron Wiggins and Cason Wallace as possible replacements.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Jalen Williams will also have to step up for the Thunder on Monday night as the team looks for its third consecutive victory.

Fans can catch Monday’s matchup between the Timberwolves and Thunder at 8:00 p.m. EST on NBA TV.
