Chicago Bulls 2022-23 Report Cards: Ayo Dosunmu
Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

Chicago Bulls guard Ayo Dosunmu experienced a sophomore slump in 2022-23.

Our 2022-23 Chicago Bulls report cards series continues with Ayo Dosunmu. The Chicago native struggled in his second season with the Bulls and found himself in and out of the starting lineup.

Dosunmu appeared in 80 games during the campaign. He averaged 8.6 PPG, 2.8 RPG, and 2.6 APG, shooting 49 percent from the field and only 31 percent from beyond the arc. All of his averages were down from his rookie season. His minutes also decreased by about a minute from his rookie year to his sophomore year.

Dosunmu started 51 games for the Bulls in 2022-23, but he struggled to integrate himself with Zach LaVine, DeMar DeRozan, and Nikola Vucevic. One thing that hurt the Illini product is that his long-range ball wasn't falling. Since the Bulls were the worst three-point shooting team, Dosunmu lost his starting job as he couldn't provide consistent shooting. He also struggled to get the offense into their sets.

As the season went on, Dosunmu's minutes started to fall off. Fellow guard Coby White made huge strides as a ball handler and defender, and Patrick Beverley was brought in to provide defense and a veteran presence. Those two factors led to Dosunmu's decreased role.

Dosunmu is entering free agency this offseason. If the Bulls decide to extend him a qualifying offer, he will become a restricted free agent. In that scenario, the Bulls would have the option to match any offer thrown his way.

Final Grade: C-

Dosunmu gets a C- on the year. His play tailed off after his rookie season and he was never able to truly rebound. If he does return to Chicago for the 2023-24 season, he will most likely be a backup in a reduced role.
