The Chicago Bulls are back in action on Thursday in a home matchup against the 25-23 Miami Heat. Josh Giddey and Co. are coming off a 113-110 loss to the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday, marking their second straight loss. The Bulls are back at United Center on Thursday, though, and have an opportunity to get back in the win column.
The bad news for Chicago is that Giddey will not play against Indiana. The 6-foot-7 guard was initially deemed questionable to play. However, Chicago downgraded him to out less than two hours before tip-off. Giddey has been ruled out due to a hamstring strain.
Giddey recently spent three weeks on the sidelines with a hamstring injury. He returned on Jan. 22 and has since played four straight games for the Bulls.
Giddey returned to the starting lineup in Wednesday’s game. He logged 29 minutes of action, registering 10 points on 3-of-8 shooting, four rebounds, seven assists and one steal.
Giddey, however, will miss at least one more game for Chicago. This is after the team announced via the official injury report that Giddey will not play against Miami due to left hamstring strain/injury management.
It is important to note that Thursday’s game is the tail end of a back-to-back set for the Bulls. This likely factored into the team’s decision to give Giddey the night off.
Giddey is in the midst of a big year in Chicago. The 23-year-old is currently averaging 18.6 points, 8.6 rebounds, 8.6 assists and 1.7 triples per game — all career-high marks.
With Giddey out, more minutes should be available for Isaac Okoro and Kevin Huerter. Giddey’s next chance to play will be on Saturday in a rematch against the Heat. That will be another back-to-back, though, with the Bulls and the Heat facing off again on Sunday. Both games will be played in Miami.
The Bulls enter Thursday’s matchup with a 23-24 record. As of writing, they are 10th in the Eastern Conference.
