The Chicago Bulls secured a 132-124 home win over the Houston Rockets on Monday night, as seven of their players scored double-digit points in a balanced effort. Their 41-21 first period certainly helped set the tone.
Matas Buzelis was among the team’s top scorers with 23 points on 8-for-16 shooting from the field in 35 minutes. The Chicago Bulls swingman also drew the assignment of having to guard Kevin Durant, who had 40 points, seven rebounds, five assists, and five three-pointers on 15-for-23 shooting from the field in 40 minutes.
“He was kicking my butt, man. It was tough. Obviously, he’s an amazing player. I’m just really happy we came out with a win. He was cooking me,” Buzelis admitted about Durant via CHSN’s KC Johnson.
“I loved him,” head coach Donovan added of Durant. “Beyond the scoring, he’s a real student of the game. I’ve told many people this: I never saw him walk into a gym and not take a game shot. He doesn’t mess around. He’s very, very detailed. He’s incredibly driven and motivated. I admire the fact that he’s not afraid of big moments.”
Matas Buzelis said he is proud of his team for ending their two-game slide on Monday. Just like his head coach, Billy Donovan, the 21-year-old forward reiterated that tanking is not in the Chicago Bulls’ vocabulary.
“I’m really proud of how we stuck together, and we kept fighting, man. It shows the strides we’re taking,” Buzelis said. “I’m just trying to be aggressive all the time. I don’t care who’s in front of me. I’m taking on the challenge.”
“I get to learn and grow. It’s part of the process. I’m just working hard every day. The work pays off… Win every game. Play-in or not. Playoffs or not. (We’re) trying to win every game,” he added.
