One Chicago Bulls star pointed out one major flaw in how Mike Brown has implemented his plans with the New York Knicks.
The New York Knicks haven’t had the easiest start to the NBA season, dropping games at odd points to earn a 5-3 record so far.
Most recently, the Knicks picked up a big win over the Minnesota Timberwolves in what was an emotionally charged affair, given the trade between the two sides last year.
Overall, Mike Brown has earned the respect of the Knicks locker room, with the players adapting well to his style of play.
Unfortunately, there are certain players in the NBA who are far too familiar with Brown’s playbook, as the head coach found out in a conversation with a Chicago Bulls player.
Mike Brown spoke to reporters after the New York Knicks’ win over the Minnesota Timberwolves. When explaining the parts of his approach with the Kings present in this team, Brown told a funny story.
After their game against the Bulls, Mike Brown spoke to his former player, Kevin Huerter, who joked that he was able to recognize many of his plays as they were the same as the ones he used with the Kings.
“After our game against Chicago, I walked by and told Kevin Huerter, ‘I missed you, man. I enjoyed our time working together in Sacramento.’
“He said, ‘Yeah, coach, I did too. Dang, you’ve brought everything that we did in Sacramento here! With the exact same calls! I felt like I was back in Sacramento on offense. I knew everything that was coming.’
Mike Brown said that after the Knicks played the Bulls, Kevin Huerter said that he recognized all the play calls from when they were in Sacramento

“We’re trying to play the same way. We want to play with pace, we want to space the floor the right way. We want to touch the paint. We want to make quick decisions. We want to reverse the ball so the defense doesn’t get settled.
“That’s our offensive philosophy in general. And our guys are doing a good job of grasping it. And there are actions and concepts that we taught guys as a foundation or a basis, so they can get creative and play out of those concepts.”
While the conversation between Kevin Huerter and Mike Brown appears to have been in jest, there is some concern about Brown’s tactics being exposed.
There isn’t a lot of difference in the way Brown implemented his playing style with the Sacramento Kings and now with the New York Knicks.
Given that he doesn’t have a carbon copy of the same roster he did with the Kings, it would behoove Brown to switch things up on the Knicks.
If not, former players and rivals will be able to quickly figure the Knicks out, and it could cost them several games this season.
