Chris Paul Says It’s Not The End After His 19th Season

One of the more underrated storylines of the Warriors season was Chris Paul, who is still on a quest to win his first NBA championship. Even after losing in the play-in this year, Paul confirmed that he intends to return for his 20th season. 

“I’ll talk to my wife and my kids, my family, my support system, see what it looks like,” Paul told The Athletic. “But this isn’t (the end of my career). I know it for sure.”

Chris Paul is second only to LeBron when it comes to longevity and he’s trying to extend his career for as long as he can. On the subject of his future with the Warriors, Paul refused to make any promises one way or the other but did indicate a willingness to communicate with GM Mike Dunleavy Jr. Paul, 38, is under contract through the 2024-25 season, but nothing is off the table for his future right now. According to Paul, it’s something he expects to talk out with the front office this summer.

“I haven’t thought about it,” Paul said. “I’m too in it. I was in the gym at 8 a.m. this morning, lifting and getting ready for this game. We’ll have a conversation and see what it looks like. But I loved it. It’s honestly — this is my fifth year living without my family — I probably saw them more than any other year.”

The Warriors have some tough decisions to make after failing to make the playoffs, and even a guy like Klay Thompson could be on the move. As someone with a minor role on the Warriors, Paul is more than expendable, and it is impossible to say for sure where he’ll end up.

Will Chris Paul Ever Win A Ring?

Paul is a future NBA Hall of Famer and one of the greatest point guards of this generation. In his prime, the star point guard was the best floor general in the game and his ball handling was unmatched for players with so much usage.

After nearly two decades, it’s no surprise that Chris Paul has fallen off from his peak but he’s not quite ready to call it quits. With a chance to capture the one thing that has eluded him for so long (a championship), Paul is going to consider his next move carefully because he knows what's at stake.

With averages of 9.2 points, 6.8 assists, and 3.9 rebounds per game on 44% shooting, Chris Paul can still contribute to a title-contending team. Unfortunately for Paul, it seems the Warriors no longer qualify as a contender. After finishing 10th, and losing in the play-in, Golden State took a major step back this season and Paul will be better off somewhere else if he wants to win a title.

For now, unless the Warriors decide to blow up the roster, Paul has no choice but to make the most of his situation and hope that his team can re-discover the spark they once carried just a few years ago. If not, Paul’s career will forever be blemished by not having a championship ring.
