Chris Paul to release memoir co-written by Michael Wilbon in September

Jones passed away at 61 when the Phoenix Suns star was in high school. Paul coincidentally scored 61 points in his first basketball game following his grandfather’s death.

“‘Sixty-One’ is a celebration of my Papa Chilly who helped shape who I am today and what I value,” Paul said in a statement.

“His legacy of hard work and service to others is woven through the fabric of my parenting, my community work and how I have approached my basketball career. That high school game where I scored 61 points was a healing moment through basketball and I am thrilled to work with Michael Wilbon to share this story with the world.”

Disney+ previously announced a live-action film was in development about Paul’s life, and it will rely on the NBA star’s memoir as the source material.

Paul, now in his 16th NBA season, is a 10-time All-Star, boasts four All-NBA First Team nods and is a seven-time NBA All-Defensive First Team honoree. The veteran point guard was also the NBA Rookie of the Year in 2006 and led the league in assists four times and steals six times during his Hall of Fame-caliber career.

In his first season in Phoenix, Paul is averaging 17.2 points, 8.2 assists, 4.7 rebounds and 1.2 steals across 26 games while shooting at a .489/.369/.972 clip.

“Sixty-One: Life Lessons from Papa, On and Off the Court,” has an expected publishing date sometime in September, St. Martin’s Press announced Wednesday.
