Chris Paul's Future With Spurs Gets Major Update

Future Hall of Famer Chris Paul signed a one-year, $10.5 million contract with the San Antonio Spurs last summer after getting waived by the Golden State Warriors.

CP3 played in all 82 games for the Spurs this season, averaging 8.8 points, 3.6 rebounds, 7.4 assists, 1.3 steals and 0.3 blocks while shooting 42.7% from the field, 37.7% from 3 and 92.4% from the foul line.

The Spurs went 34-48 this season. They missed the playoffs for the sixth straight year.

It was an eventual campaign in San Antonio this year. Gregg Popovich suffered a stroke and stopped coaching the team, De'Aaron Fox was traded by the Sacramento Kings to the Spurs and Victor Wembanyama underwent surgery to treat the deep vein thrombosis in his right shoulder.

San Antonio has the second overall pick in this year's draft. The franchise has been heavily linked to Rutgers point guard Dylan Harper, and according to Marc Stein of The Stein Line, Paul is not expected to be back with the Spurs since the team has Fox and Stephon Castle and could draft Harper.

"Anticipation is building that Paul could be on the move again this offseason even though his time as a Spur as a mentor to Wembanyama and a young team overall was an unabashed success," Stein wrote. "The reality now, though, is that San Antonio acquired Fox in February and just watched Castle assemble a Rookie of the Year season."

Stein is reporting that the Dallas Mavericks are interested in signing Paul, who is 40 years old.

The Mavericks need a starting point guard since Kyrie Irving will miss time next season recovering from his left ACL tear.

Paul has career averages of 17.0 points, 4.4 rebounds and 9.2 assists. It will be intriguing to see where he's playing next season.
