Christian Wood agrees to three-year, $27M deal with Rockets?
Christian Wood is reportedly heading to Houston. Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Christian Wood has parlayed his breakout season into a nice contract with the Houston Rockets.

As first reported by Frank Isola of SiriusXM, Wood has agreed to a three-year, $27 million contract with the Rockets. Wood is likely to fit into the team’s frontcourt, particularly after Houston dealt Robert Covington this week.

It’s a bit surprising to see Wood not get more money on the open market. It’s even more surprising that his old team, the Detroit Pistons, didn’t give him that deal. That’s especially true since they signed Mason Plumlee for a similar figure as part of their bizarre run on centers.

Wood is an excellent modern big man, at least based on his breakout 2019-20 campaign. He averaged 13.1 points and 6.3 rebounds per game last season, with those numbers rising to 22.8 points and 9.9 rebounds in the final 13 games once he was made a more consistent starter.
