Christian Wood Reveals Bold Personal Goal With Lakers
Kiyoshi Mio-USA TODAY Sports

Christian Wood was one of the major off-season signings for the Los Angeles Lakers. They added a center to their roster to solidify the depth at that position. Now, the new Laker, Wood, reveals his bold personal goal with the team.

The Lakers added a big man with an offensive game that could be utilized in the half-court. Wood made a name for himself in his time with Houston. He averaged 21 points and 9.6 rebounds in his best season in the NBA. However, the one thing missing for the 28-year-old big man was winning.

Wood thought he would get there when he signed with Dallas last season. Instead, it became a disappointing season for the center. For the upcoming season, Wood looks towards “winning, that is my next thing.”

Wood is confident in his ability to be a difference-maker in the NBA. He hopes that will be the case as part of the Lakers organization.

“Winning, that is my next thing,” Wood told Andscape. “I’ve already proved that I’m an NBA player. I’m a rotation player and I could play in these games. My next step is trying to win as many games as possible. Trying to affect the game in a winning way. I haven’t been to the playoffs yet. Darvin knows that.

“So, he knows how eager I’m to try and do everything for his team and just get better day by day, take it day by day and keep getting better.”

Additionally, Wood made clear he’s motivated to help the Lakers win as many games as possible to showcase that he’s a player who impacts winning. Alongside a dominant frontcourt partner in Anthony Davis and playing with LeBron James, Wood sees major potential in his situation.

“I am going to try to affect the game in a winning way. Try and attack the game how I normally have been. I’ve always been an efficient player. I’ve always been a great pick-and-roll player, pick-and-pop player. Just keep doing what I’m normally doing. Now, I’m in a situation playing with one of the greatest players of all time [James] and Anthony Davis, which is great.”

Lakers coach Darvin Ham is why Wood remains motivated to help the team win. He is developing a relationship with the coach that he might not have had in the past. Wood vows that he’s “eager” and is trying to do everything his team needs.
