Nine people died in the helicopter crash on Sunday that claimed the lives of Kobe and Gianna Bryant. Though the Bryants lead the headlines due to their fame, we want to make sure we also recognize the other victims who died.
In addition to Kobe and Gianna, junior college baseball coach John Altobelli, his wife Keri, and daughter Alyssa died in the crash. We have since learned that another victim was Christina Mauser, who was a girls’ basketball coach.
Mauser’s husband Matt shared the sad news of Christina’s death on Facebook Sunday.
“My kids and I are devastated. We lost our beautiful wife and mom today in a helicopter crash. Please respect our privacy. Thank you for all the well wishes they mean so much,” he wrote.
Christina was a coach for the Mamba team and recently helped run a clinic at the Mamba Academy involving WNBA players, according to Matt.
Matt Mauser is a member of the Tijuana Dogs band. The mayor of Costa Mesa, which is where Kobe had an office, shared the news of Mauser’s death on Twitter and mentioned Matt’s involvement in the band.
I just learned that our amazing Matt Mauser of TiajuanaDogs lost his wife Christina in the crash. She coached the girls team. This devastating tragedy gets worse by the hour. So much pain for so many local families. Our hearts are broken & grieving for the families impacted.

Mauser was listed as the 7th grade girls’ basketball coach at Harbor Day School in Corona del Mar for the 2017-2018 school year.
