Cleveland Cavaliers Most Likely Final Move This Offseason

With two roster spots still available, the Cleveland Cavaliers need to ensure they have experience and quality in someone who can mould into what they are looking to build this season and carry them further than the Eastern Conference finals finish from last term.

With one spot more than likely being saved for Peyton Watson, it leaves one spot free that can bring another scoring touch but also someone with championship pedigree and someone who is no stranger to big moments.

Watson’s arrival is looking like it will be a sign-and-trade for either Dennis Schroder or Max Strus, so the last signing is likely to be a free agent on a low-risk contract.

DeMar DeRozan is the standout

For the Cavs, DeRozan would be able to provide a consistent scoring boost, either as a starter or off the bench.

The veteran appeared in 77 games for the Sacramento Kings last season, averaging 18.4 points, 4.1 assists, 2.9 rebounds, and 1.0 steal per game. He shot an efficient 49% from the field; however, he shot just 32% from beyond the arc.

For Cleveland, you have a scorer, and that’s what is needed from a small forward that they are looking for.

However, while there's little doubt about DeRozan's ability to bag points, his offensive game and how he plays doesn’t mean he is a natural fit in every system.

He thrives with the ball in his hands, creating shots off the dribble rather than spacing the floor as a catch-and-shoot threat. His three-point numbers from last season reinforce that he is not the type of player who provides consistent spot-up shooting.

Where LeBron goes, Love goes. But could Kevin be tempted?

If LeBron James chose the Cavs, there’s a very good chance soon-to-be 38-year-old Kevin Love would have penned a deal to return to Cleveland for his final run before he ride into the sunset.

Money would not have been an issue, as Love has been playing on small deals since leaving Cleveland, with his last club being the Utah Jazz, where he played small minutes. The problem is that he may no longer be an effective member of a championship roster.

Love was last an All-Star in 2018 and has not averaged double-digit points since the 2021-22 season, a far cry from his wild double-double number in his early years at the Minnesota Timberwolves.

And fans will remember that Love was not happy to be part of the post-LeBron Cavs. He was ultimately made a bench player before being waived and signing with Miami in 2023.

As of now, reports have circulated that Love’s agents are in talks with the 76ers, so this could be a long shot.
