Cleveland Cavaliers Reveal Shocking Expectations for Evan Mobley

The Cleveland Cavaliers are in a precarious position this offseason following the disappointing end to their playoff run.

After the historic regular season they had it was assumed they would be in the finals, or at the very least giving the Boston Celtics a run for their money in the Eastern Conference Finals.

But the Indiana Pacers made quick work of Cleveland in round two and now the state of the team is in flux.

One of the silver linings of the now unforgettable season was the development of Evan Mobley.

When the team hired head coach Kenny Atkinson last season, he made it a point of emphasis to unlock Mobley’s game.

The fourth-year star wound up winning Defensive Player of the Year, but surprisingly it was his offense that caught the attention of national audiences.

He set a career high in points while shooting a respectable 37% from three-point range.

He had almost identical three-point efficiency last season, but he tripled his volume of shot attempts which makes the hot shooting difficult to sustain.

Mobley evolved from a timid offensive liability into a confident, versatile wing who could carry the team offensively one day.

The Cavs took note of these improvements and were the driving force of an answer given by Koby Altman in his end of season presser.

Cleveland’s President of Basketball Operations was blunt about Mobley’s impact, telling reporters, “We’re going to go as a franchise as Evan is going to go.”

This is a convoluted statement that essentially means they view Mobley as the centerpiece and all moves that the team makes going forward will be catered to him and his development.

Altman followed that up by explaining that he thinks Mobley is one of the best big men in the game, so you can assume this means he will be the player the team builds around.

This is a stunning development considering Cleveland was metaphorically begging Donovan Mitchell to remain with the team last summer.

The franchise still holds him in high regard, but perhaps they believe Mobley is the one who can truly elevate them to title contention.

The playoffs were a good start where the USC product left his comfort zone and showed off moves nobody knew were in his offensive arsenal.

If he can continue the trajectory he is on offensively, then maybe it is not the worst idea for the Cavs to keep the current core around for a bit longer.
