The Clippers were supposed to make their decision on Bogdan Bogdanovic‘s $16MM team option for 2026/27 by the end of the day on Friday, but they’ve reached a mutual agreement to push that deadline back, reports Jake Fischer of The Stein Line (Twitter link).
According to Fischer, the new deadline for a decision on that option is Monday, June 29, which is the league-wide deadline for player and team option decisions.
That will give the Clippers an opportunity to continue engaging in trade conversations involving Bogdanovic, Fischer explains. If the option is exercised, the veteran guard could have his expiring $16MM contract included in a deal for salary-matching purposes. However, he can’t be traded (unless it’s in a sign-and-trade scenario) if the option is declined.
Bogdanovic is coming off the worst season of his NBA career, as health issues limited him to 23 games (three starts). He averaged just 7.4 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 2.2 assists in 19.7 minutes per contest, shooting a career-low 38.8% from the field and 34.7% on three-pointers.
The Serbian has a solid track record, but based on his recent production, his injuries, and his age (34 in August), it seems relatively safe to assume he won’t find a $16MM starting salary on the open market if his option is declined.
Bogdanovic has reportedly drawn interest from teams overseas, with the Nuggets also believed to have its eye on him as a potential free agent target if he reaches the open market.
