The Clippers are scheduled to begin the first half of a back-to-back at 7:30 p.m. ET on Friday against the Toronto Raptors and take on the Brooklyn Nets at 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday. Los Angeles is currently sixth in the NBA's Western Conference at 18-17.
Lue is in his second season at the helm of the Clippers. The team went 47-25 last season and advanced to the Western Conference Finals before falling to the Phoenix Suns, despite missing five-time All-Star Kawhi Leonard over the final eight games of the playoffs.
Following 11 years as a player, Lue began his NBA coaching career as an assistant with the Boston Celtics under Doc Rivers in 2011. Lue stayed with Rivers for two seasons in Boston and followed him to Los Angeles when Rivers became the lead man for the Clippers in 2013.
Lue was the assistant head coach for David Blatt with the Cleveland Cavaliers for the 2014-2015 campaign before taking over the lead gig midway through the next season and helping bring the franchise its first NBA title. The former point guard was the head coach for the Cavs in each of the next two seasons -- both of which resulted in Eastern Conference championships, but losses to the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals.
Lue was fired from the Cavaliers after an 0-6 start to the 2018-2019 season, rejoined the Clippers as an assistant to Rivers the following year and took over as the lead man in October 2020. He holds a 193-125 career coaching record in the regular season and 51-29 mark in the postseason.
