Clippers Lose Player to 76ers on Thursday

It has been a wildly active week around the NBA trade deadline for the Los Angeles Clippers. On Tuesday, the Clippers completed a blockbuster deal that sent James Harden to the Cleveland Cavaliers in exchange for Darius Garland and a second-round pick, trading away one of the league’s premier playmakers after months of trade chatter.

The Clippers struck again Thursday before the trade deadline, sending starting center Ivica Zubac to the Indiana Pacers in a move that brought Bennedict Mathurin, Isaiah Jackson and two first-round picks back to Los Angeles.

Those trades came as something of a surprise considering the Clippers’ 17-4 run just before the Harden deal.

Now, another change headlines the Clippers’ week after the Philadelphia 76ers announced on Thursday that they have signed forward Patrick Baldwin Jr. to a 10-day contract.

Baldwin, a former 28th overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft by the Golden State Warriors, most recently spent time with the Clippers on a 10-day contract prior to this signing and has also featured for their G League affiliate, the San Diego Clippers. At 6-foot-9 with strong upside, he’s shown promise in the development league this season, averaging 21.6 points, 7.8 rebounds and 3.4 assists while shooting 51.1% from the field in 17 games played.

During his stint with the Clippers this season, Baldwin also saw NBA minutes and has appeared in two games this season, most recently the Clippers’ Jan. 25 win against the Brooklyn Nets. That night, he finished with seven points in eight minutes of action.

Baldwin’s NBA path has included stops with the Washington Wizards and the Spurs before landing in Los Angeles last season. Since his rookie season with the Warriors, he has spent significant time in the G League as he continues to sharpen his game.

It remains unclear whether Baldwin will make his 76ers debut when Philadelphia visits the Los Angeles Lakers at Crypto.com Arena on Thursday. Philly has also dealt with departures of their own, most recently trading fan-favorite Jared McCain to the Oklahoma City Thunder
