Clippers Named a Potential Fit for $101.4 million Superstar Who Would Make Them a Superteam if it Was 2018

We officially have the most wild trade idea of the offseason for the Los Angeles Clippers.

There have been plenty of ides thrown around already. Those ideas have included players like Kevin Durant, Jrue Holiday, LaMelo Ball, and, in some more delusional corners of the internet, Giannis Antetokounmpo.

The latest idea involves LeBron James.

In a recent article discussing potential fits for James, The Athletic's Fred Katz named the Clippers a fit for the NBA's all-time leading scorer.

In the article, Katz presented the possibilities that the Clippers could offer a package including Norman Powell, Bogdan Bogdanovic, and Derrick Jones Jr. or swap Kawhi Leonard for James.

There was a time that putting James Harden, Leonard, and James on a team together would have made that team the best in the league regardless of who you surrounded them with.

That time is not 2025.

Sure, it would be fun for Clippers fans to see how far those three and Ivica Zubac could take them, but there are some major issues with the idea.

The first is that if James were to seek a trade, it would be to go to a team who gives him a chance at one last ring. The current Lakers roster gives him a better chance at that than a move to the Clippers would.

This move would deplete the Clippers roster, which is far from ideal when you build a team around older stars.

Meanwhile, the Lakers just addressed the biggest issue they faced during the playoffs, which was a lack of size.

It also doesn't feel like there's any real chance the Lakers would send LeBron across town unless they were absolutely fleecing the Clippers.

Making a move for LeBron would definitely make the Clippers a more interesting team, but it's very unlikely that something would happen and it would put a ton of pressure on their starting lineup to play big minutes and stay healthy.
