Clippers’ Paul George, with eyes on his first ring, talks about channelizing his capabilities for ‘statement’ 38-point performance against the Thunder

Paul George is confident about the team and his performance against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Here’s what he had to say post-game about how far he thinks the team can go:

I think we in the driver's seat, we control our destiny... Both of them [Kawhi Leonard and James Harden] require double teams and so much attention that a lot of times I have the third best defender on me, at that point the other team is at our mercy.

Even with center Ivica Zubac sidelined by injury, the Clippers demonstrated their depth and tenacity. George’s exceptional play was boosted by Leonard and Harden, each chipping in 16 points.

Now with an NBA-leading 18-4 record since December, the Los Angeles Clippers are turning heads as true championship hopefuls. George’s leadership and scoring flair have been key during this remarkable stretch.

Both Paul George and James Harden have performed outstandingly with their former teams. With the Indiana Pacers, George used to go toe-to-toe with the likes of LeBron James in the Playoffs before succumbing to injuries. Had there not been the overly stacked Golden State Warriors, MVP Harden would arguably have won two back-to-back championships with the Houston Rockets.

Both of them had similar issues. The lack of reliable second or third options in their respective franchises often led to teams double-teaming them. With the likes of Kawhi Leonard and Russell Westbrook by their side on the Clippers, they have a lot more freedom. This also pulls a lot of unnecessary burden off their shoulders.

The Los Angeles Clippers were marred by chemistry issues at the beginning of the season, but have finally discovered their footing. The way things are going, the league might have finally discovered the rise of a new dynasty.
