CNN is set to debut "Kobe: The Making of a Legend," a three-part documentary series chronicling the life and legacy of Lakers icon Kobe Bryant. The series will premiere Saturday, January 25, 2025, at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT, with new episodes airing weekly in the same timeslot.
The documentary traces Bryant's remarkable journey from his childhood in Italy through his standout high school career in Philadelphia, culminating in his legendary 20-year run with the Los Angeles Lakers. Through interviews with former coaches, teammates, and family friends, the series promises to explore the private challenges and personal evolution that shaped Bryant's path to greatness.
"Five years after his passing, we are honored to share the story of Kobe Bryant—arguably one of the greatest and most competitive professional athletes of all time," said Eric Johnson, Executive Producer for CNN Original Series. "While his legendary career on the court is widely celebrated, this series explores some of the lesser-known dimensions of his life. We're proud to present a deeper, more nuanced portrait of Kobe and the complicated journey that shaped his legacy."
The documentary features insights from an impressive roster of basketball luminaries, including Hall of Famers Tracy McGrady and Sheryl Swoopes, current Knicks All-Star Jalen Brunson, and longtime Lakers trainer Gary Vitti.
Viewers can watch "Kobe: The Making of a Legend" live through CNN.com, CNN connected TV, and mobile apps with a pay TV subscription. On-demand viewing will be available starting Sunday, January 26, through various CNN platforms and Cable Operator Platforms.
