According to Dave McMenamin of ESPN , Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James suffered a Grade 2 MCL sprain in his left knee in Game 5 against the Minnesota Timberwolves after Donte DiVincenzo crashed into him. The injury entails a 3-5 week recovery timeline.

James is 40 years old. He's the oldest active player in the NBA. The leading scorer of all time met up with family and friends after Game 5 against the Timberwolves and there were several cameras on site at Crypto.com Arena.

While hugging a female, James was seen walking with a heavy limp. The four-time MVP would not have played in Game 6 had the Lakers won Game 5.

James doesn't have any basketball games this summer like last summer when he played in the Olympics. The future Hall of Famer will have enough time to rest his leg injury.

A four-time Finals MVP, James appeared in 70 games for the Lakers this season. He averaged 24.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, 8.2 assists, 1.0 steals and 0.6 blocks.

In the Lakers-Timberwolves series, James put up 25.4 points, 9.0 rebounds, 5.6 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.8 blocks per game. The 21-time All-Star told reporters that he was disappointed Los Angeles didn't compete for the title this year.

"For me, since my first NBA Finals appearance in 2007, the moment I got an opportunity to be a part of that and taste that feeling, from there on, every season that I did not make it to the Finals or did not win the championship has been a disappointment," James said. "So ... it will be an offseason of disappointment and fulfillment."

James turns 41 in December. He has a player option for next season. If he declines the player option, James would become an unrestricted free agent this offseason.
