When Cooper Flagg made his debut for the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA Summer League, he didn't have a particularly good game. In fact, one could say that it was a performance the former Duke Blue Devils star would rather forget.
Against the Los Angeles Lakers, Flagg finished with 10 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals. However, he shot just 5-of-21 from the field, including 0-of-5 from deep.
After the contest, the No. 1 overall pick of the 2025 NBA Draft expressed his disappointment about his performance, although he emphasized that he's happy the team got the 87-85 win.
"That might be one of the worst games of my life, but we got the win — so that’s what really matters to me," Flagg told reporters.
While Flagg was not happy with his Summer League debut, it didn't stop sports memorabilia collectors from bidding on his jersey from the game.
According to Sotheby's, the item sold for $95,250 at auction. The item description stated: "This neutral ‘White Summer League’ jersey was worn by Cooper Flagg on July 10, 2025 during the NBA 2K26 Summer League, when the Dallas Mavericks played the Los Angeles Lakers. This is the first jersey worn by Cooper Flagg in the NBA 2K26 Summer League in Las Vegas, NV. This is the first NBA jersey worn by Flagg."
The auction house also confirmed the authenticity of the jersey, noting that the "jersey has been photomatched by Sotheby’s Photomatching."
Sure enough, the massive jersey sale highlights the expectations on Flagg as he enters the NBA as the top overall pick.
Flagg is predicted to quickly make an impact on the Mavs after one season at Duke that saw him average 19.2 points, 7.5 rebounds and 4.2 assists, while shooting 48.1% from the field and 38.5% from deep.
In two games in the Summer League, the 18-year-old forward put up 20.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists. His second game, a 31-point explosion against the San Antonio Spurs, boosted his numbers and showed everyone what he's truly capable of.
Flagg is currently the odds-on favorite to be the NBA's best newcomer in 2025-26, which isn't really a surprise since he's widely considered the best talent in the class.
