The Indiana Pacers have a logjam on the wings. Bennedict Mathurin, Obi Toppin, Jarace Walker, Pascal Siakam, Aaron Nesmith, and Ben Sheppard are all worthy of minutes, but the Pacers could, in theory, upgrade.
Indiana is off to a slow 13-15 start but kicked off their arduous road trip with a win over the Phoenix Suns. Much like the Pacers, the Suns are not living up to expectations after trading for Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal. They lost in the first round of the playoffs last year and are currently 14-12 and in the Western Conference Play-In picture.
Despite boasting the best Big Three in the NBA, the Suns can't get over the hump. They are in the bottom ten in both bench points and bench minutes and boosting their second unit needs to be a priority. On top of that, they are 20th in rebounds and 23rd in blocked shots, so adding a better interior presence is a must.
With possible trade assets like the aforementioned wings and center Myles Turner, the Pacers might be able to make a massive deal, clearing out their logjam and adding star power.
The Pacers could offer Jarace Walker, Obi Toppin, Myles Turner, Aaron Nesmith, and a 2028 first-round pick for Kevin Durant and Mason Plumlee.
Adding Durant would immediately give the Pacers an elite starting lineup and would boost the Suns' second unit. Tyrese Haliburton, Bennedict Mathurin, Pascal Siakam, and Thomas Byrant could all start next to Durant, with Plumlee, Andrew Nembhard, TJ McConnell, and Ben Sheppard all playing key bench roles.
A glitzy star like Durant might not want to come to small-market Indiana, but Suns' owner Matt Ishbia has made it clear that he will do anything to win. Bradley Beal has a no-trade clause, so he has a bit more power than Durant, who would be tasked with turning around Indiana's playoff hopes.
While a blockbuster mock trade is unlikely, the Suns make for an ideal partner for the Pacers, at least on paper.
