Dallas Mavericks guard Dante Exum underwent a successful surgery on his right knee, but Exum, 30, will miss the remainder of the 2025-26 NBA season. Read on for further details about Exum’s surgery and the potential impact on the Mavericks.
According to Mavs PR, the Dallas Mavericks announced that guard Dante Exum underwent successful surgery on his right knee. Mavs PR added, “Further updates will be provided as appropriate.”
Mavs PR’s post on X, formerly Twitter, attracted ample attention. X user, DatHandsomeJerk, wrote, “Better learn European, buddy!” Another X user, jackknowsballfr, pleaded, “Waive him already.”
Dante Exum has averaged 8.7 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 2.8 assists, along with 47.8% shooting from the field. But Exum’s averages are when he’s healthy. The 30-year-old has faced multiple injuries during his tenure in Dallas since 2023.
The 30-year-old’s injuries have significantly affected his playing time in the NBA and international competitions. This surgery can cause the Mavericks to rethink his future after he signed a one-year deal, returning to Dallas, in July 2025.
Then-GM Nico Harrison reportedly brought Exum back to take care of some of the ball-handling duties amid Kyrie Irving’s absence. However, Harrison’s decision was arguably a mistake.
The Australian guard’s injury isn’t just another absence in the team’s roster, as his versatility and playmaking have positively impacted the team’s offensive strategies. Some individuals might blame Harrison, 52, but I won’t. I believe the team re-signed the Australian guard due to his multi-faceted contributions.
