The 2025 NBA Draft began on Wednesday at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The Dallas Mavericks selected Cooper Flagg with the first overall pick. Flagg, 18, played one season at Duke University from 2024-25. The Mavericks’ fans took to social media after the first round of the NBA Draft. The Mavericks’ picks received the third-highest number of positive tweets among all NBA fanbases. Here’s why.

Dallas Mavericks Fans Are the Third Happiest

According to The Sports Geek, Dallas Mavericks fans are the third happiest in the NBA. The Mavericks’ fans have made the third most positive tweets about their first-round selections, with over 5,130 tweets (about Flagg) that were positive.

The Sports Geek’s analysis focused on NBA fans’ social media reactions after the first night of the 2025 NBA Draft. The Sports Geek used a social media sentiment tool to look at all of the tweets made since the start of the NBA Draft. The social media sentiment tool’s purpose was to analyze each word and determine whether they were positive, negative, or neutral.

Mavericks Fans Trail Two Teams

The Sports Geek’s in-depth analysis shows San Antonio Spurs and Utah Jazz fans are above Dallas Mavericks fans at first place with 6,534 positive tweets and second place with 5,321 positive tweets, respectively.

Brooklyn Nets, Atlanta Hawks, Boston Celtics, Oklahoma City Thunder, Philadelphia 76ers, Miami Heat, and Charlotte Hornets fans trail Mavericks fans in terms of positive tweets. Brooklyn had 4,957, Atlanta had 4,539, Boston had 4,327, Oklahoma City had 4,219, Philadelphia had 4,132, Miami had 3,465, and Charlotte had 3,247.

Final Thoughts

Some Dallas Mavericks fans are still upset about the Luka Doncic trade in early February and continue to take out their anger at Mavericks GM Nico Harrison on social media. However, more Mavericks fans are embracing the Flagg era.

Even Dallas Cowboys star CeeDee Lamb reacted to Flagg joining the Mavericks — a positive sign for the future of Dallas’ sports teams. Lamb, 26, took to social media to share a Cowboys post welcoming Flagg to Dallas on his Instagram story.
