Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

The Dallas Mavericksinjury woes have been mounting up. On Sunday night, the Mavs lost another one of their key players after rookie Dereck Lively II was helped to the locker room in the opening half of their Game 3 showdown against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Lively took a dangerous hit to the head courtesy of Wolves superstar Karl-Anthony Towns, and the Mavs big man was forced to head back to the locker room to get himself checked for a possible concussion.

Dallas Mavericks News: Dereck Lively II Suffers Scary Injury in Game 3

Lively immediately clutched onto his head as soon as he got hit. The Mavs center was on his way down when an inadvertent knee hit him on the side of his head. It did not look good:

There was clearly no intent from Towns here, and the knee to Lively’s head was purely accidental.

Be that as it may, Lively looked woozy as he was helped by his teammates to the locker room:

At this point, it is unclear if Lively will be able to return to the game. The Mavs entered halftime with a 60-52 lead as they look to go up 3-0 in the series.

Head injuries can be tricky, and the hope here is that Lively hasn’t suffered a concussion. Unfortunately, it is very likely that the 20-year-old will be forced to miss time if he’s diagnosed with a concussion.
