The Dallas Mavericks have had an eventful year.

After reaching the NBA Finals in 2024, the team made one of the most shocking trades in NBA history when the it sent Luka Doncic and a few of the team's role players to the Los Angeles Lakers in return for Anthony Davis and other assets.

Even after completely altering the team's identity, Dallas still reached the postseason, but was ousted in the Play-In. The Mavericks didn't have to wait long to get their replacement for Doncic, though, as the team won the top pick in this year's draft lottery and selected coveted prospect Cooper Flagg.

Flagg, alongside the Mavericks other pieces, should usher in a new era in Dallas that could make the team competitive now, and in the future. While Flagg was the prize in this year's draft class for Nico Harrison and company, it seems that the team has found a gem in free agency as well.

After going undrafted in the 2025 NBA Draft, Ryan Nembhard, the younger brother of NBA Finals starter Andrew Nembhard, inked a two-way contract with the Mavericks that will make him part of the organization for the coming season.

On a two-way deal, Nembhard will have the ability to be active in G League and NBA contests as a rookie.

Of course, at 5-foot-11, the young guard will have to prove himself in the Summer League and training camp to earn time with the Mavericks rather than spending the majority of his season with Texas Legends.

After signing D'Angelo Russell, Dallas has more guard depth than the team boasted at the start of the offseason, but could still use more young ball handlers in the rotation. Fortunatly for Nembhard, he seems to have already won over the respect of his teammates.

"He's an ultimate point guard. He's a floor general," fellow UDFA signee Miles Kelly said. "He just makes other guys’ job easier out there on the court, and the offense just flows when he’s out there.”

If Nembhard can continue to win over his teammates, perform well in practice and make the most of his opportunities on the court, it would not be surprising to see him earn decent minutes for the Mavericks in the regular season.

Alongside No. 1 overall pick Cooper Flagg, Nembhard and Kelly are set to make their professional debuts for Dallas on Thursday night against the Los Angeles Lakers.
