Draymond Green laid out LeBron James with a hard foul late in Wednesday night’s play-in tournament showdown between the Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Lakers. One prominent NBA superstar seemingly hinted on Twitter that it was a dirty play.
Late in the fourth quarter with just about two minutes remaining, James took the ball to the hoop where he was met by a contesting Green, whose arm whacked the Lakers star up in the face. James remained on the court for some time after the contact.

James later received eye drops on the bench after the play as a result of the contact to his face.
Reacting in real time on social media, Portland Trail Blazers star Damian Lillard called out Green’s hard foul by calling the Warriors star an “mf” in a tweet.

Interestingly enough, Lillard’s Trail Blazers teammate, CJ McCollum, had an entirely different take on the play. In a pair of tweets, McCollum jokingly called James an “actor” and intimated the Lakers star remained laid out for awhile to rest up for his ensuing free throws.

Following the Lakers’ 103-100 victory, James claimed he saw three rims on his clutch, go-ahead three-pointer that proved to be the game-winner due to Green raking him across the eyes.
"After Draymond's finger to the eye, I was literally seeing 3 rims out there. I just shot at the middle one…I definitely wasn't leaving the floor, no matter if I had to put a pirate patch on my eye."

What’s working against Green in the narrative surrounding the foul on James is his history of questionably dirty play over the years. Green’s reputation and aggressive style actually once led a particularly outspoken NBA talking head to say he wanted to punch the Warriors star in the face.
Green admitted that being tabbed as a dirty player bothered him throughout his career. Last year, Green revealed he sought out the advice of Kobe Bryant before his death about how to handle being saddled with the unflattering “dirty” label.
In the end, what’s done is done. The Lakers move on as the No. 7 seed and face the Dallas Mavericks in a first-round series. Green and the Warriors can still secure the No. 8 seed Friday night with a victory over the Memphis Grizzlies.
