Damian Lillard signed a massive contract extension with the Trail Blazers last summer, and he has said in the past that he wants to finish his carer in Portland. But in an era where almost every NBA superstar finds himself at the center of trade speculation, Lillard is no exception.
On Wednesday, a tweet from an account called Lakers UK cited “various reports” that claim Lillard is unhappy with Portland’s front office and is seeking a trade. According to the “report,” Lillard wants to play with LeBron James and Anthony Davis and has the Lakers at the top of his wish list.
Wednesday also happened to be April Fool’s Day. It’s unclear if the Lakers UK tweet was supposed to be an April Fool’s Joke, but Lillard made it known that we should take it as one.

Lillard raised some eyebrows a while back with a tweet he sent about the Lakers, but there’s no reason to believe he wants out of Portland. The 29-year-old is averaging a career-high 28.9 points per game this season, though the Blazers have a 29-37 record and are 3.5 games out of a playoff spot in the Western Conference with the season suspended.
Star players change teams so frequently in the NBA these days that nothing would surprise us, but the way Lillard responded makes it seem highly unlikely that he is planning to request or demand a trade.
