Damian Lillard Sends Message After Nephew Shares Career Update
Soobum Im-USA TODAY Sports

Damian Lillard publicly showed support after his nephew, Houston Lillard Jr., shared a career update ahead of a key college football recruiting event. Houston revealed that he would be in Boise, Idaho, for Junior Day, expressing excitement about getting on the blue turf as the Boise State Broncos football program evaluates prospects.

Reacting to the update, Damian Lillard reposted the message on X with a short but emphatic caption: “Let’s go nephew!” The post quickly drew attention, as fans connected the moment to Lillard’s long history of backing his nephew’s athletic journey.

Houston’s post highlighted his upcoming visit. Junior Day visits are a significant step in the recruiting process, offering prospects a closer look at facilities, coaching staff and program culture.

This is far from the first time Lillard has publicly supported his nephew. Over the years, the NBA star has shared several Instagram posts featuring Houston, dating back to his childhood.

Those posts underscored Lillard’s consistent message about hard work, confidence and being ready for opportunities, values that appear to be carrying over as Houston transitions into the college football recruiting spotlight. Now, with Houston visiting Boise State, that long-running support has shifted into a new phase.

Damian Lillard on a Year Away From the Court After Return to Portland

Lillard’s message comes during a unique period in his NBA career, as he is sidelined this season after suffering a torn Achilles in his left leg during the first round of last season's playoffs. In July, the Milwaukee Bucks officially waived Lillard, stretching the remaining $103 million left on his contract. The move brought an unexpected end to his short stint with the Bucks.

However, less than two weeks later, Lillard returned to familiar ground, signing a three-year, $42 million deal with the Portland Trail Blazers. The agreement marked a homecoming for the veteran guard, who previously spent 11 seasons in Portland and was the face of the franchise.
