Damian Lillard's reaction to Ramona Shelburne's report about Giannis Antetokounmpo's involvement in his release is making the rounds on Wednesday. The Milwaukee Bucks released the nine-time All-Star to make room for Myles Turner, their biggest addition of the 2025 free agency.
Antetokounmpo was reportedly "not pleased" with the team's decision to cut Lillard, whose remaining $113 million will be stretched over five years. Lillard, who averaged 24.9 points, 4.7 rebounds, 7.1 assists and 1.2 steals per game in 58 games last season, was excited to have full control of where he's going to play next.
Shelburne shared details of how the Bucks handled this situation and how much Antetokounmpo knew about their plans to release the 34-year-old guard.
During Wednesday's edition of "NBA Today," Shelburne shared details of what happened behind the scenes in Milwaukee.
"They did inform Giannis that they were doing this," Shelburne said. "Did they tell him they were waiving Damian Lillard in order to facilitate this? I don't know the answer to that, but he did know about Myles Turner. I think he was excited about Myles Turner, because he's played against him, he knows how good he is. He does so many things well that they need on this team."
Lillard reacted to the report with a GIF from the cult movie "Nacho Libre," in which the main character nods with resignation.

Notably, Shelburne also declared that the Bucks are not better without Lillard and the franchise is going to miss him. Meanwhile, on the same show, Hall-of-fame basketball reporter Marc Spears presented an interesting take.
“I’ll wait and see. I feel they’re still working on their chemistry. They (Bucks) could end up regretting it if he’s (Lillard) back sooner than expected. That’s the thing I am keeping an eye on,” Spears said.
Lillard and Antetokounmpo spent two seasons together. They were initially seen as the next big duo in the league, but their talents never quite meshed. The Bucks only had two first-round playoff exits to show for it, with Antetokounmpo and Lillard missing time with injuries each year.
The Los Angeles Lakers, Boston Celtics, Golden State Warriors and the Miami Heat have all been linked with a move for the former Portland Trail Blazers star in recent hours.
