Damian Lillard’s Offseason Outlook Takes an Interesting Turn
Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports

The Milwaukee Bucks rocked the basketball world on Tuesday after deciding to waive the services of nine-time All-Star Damian Lillard after just two seasons with the team.

The 6-foot-2 guard suffered a season-ending Achilles injury in the playoffs and is expected to miss most, if not all, of the 2025-26 campaign. Given the situation, the Bucks decided that it would be in their best interest to waive the two remaining years of Lillard's contract, thereby allowing him to become an unrestricted free agent.

Lillard has now garnered significant interest from multiple teams across the league. At this point, however, the 34-year-old is taking his time.

NBA insider Chris Haynes had this update on Lillard's current outlook

"Sources: Free agent star Damian Lillard is open to signing with a team this offseason under the right terms and conditions as he continues rehabbing. He is receiving ample interest, but is in no rush to make a decision," Haynes reported.

It appears that Lillard's top priority right now is his road to recovery. He knows that he still has a lot to offer, which is why he's doing everything he can to get his body right, first and foremost.

Despite the possibility of the seven-time All-NBA point guard missing the entirety of the upcoming season, several teams have already been linked to a potential free agency swoop on Lillard.

The Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Lakers, Boston Celtics and Miami Heat are among the teams that reportedly have interest in signing Lillard, and based on this new report, it appears that it's very much possible that the former Weber State star is going to be announcing his new team in the not-so-distant future.
