The Los Angeles Lakers had a big weekend, highlighted by their agreement on a three-year, $165 million contract extension with 26-year-old guard Luka Doncic. The deal includes a player option in 2028, giving Doncic the opportunity to land another max contract before turning 30.
To mark the occasion, the Lakers held a press conference featuring Doncic and general manager Rob Pelinka. A number of Doncic’s teammates and coaches were also in attendance to show their support, including head coach JJ Redick, Marcus Smart, Deandre Ayton, Gabe Vincent, Adou Thiero, Maxi Kleber, Rui Hachimura, and Jaxson Hayes.
Notably absent from that group was LeBron James. However, reports say LeBron reached out to Doncic later that day to offer his congratulations via FaceTime.

That said, on Monday’s episode of "The Dan Patrick Show," longtime sports host Dan Patrick didn’t criticize LeBron’s absence—acknowledging that he was on vacation—but took issue with someone else missing: his son, and Lakers guard, Bronny James.
“LeBron was not there, although he FaceTimed Luka,” Patrick said. “Now, LeBron was posting that he was playing golf at the time on vacation... but okay, you're on vacation.”
Patrick continued, “The one person who I thought should’ve been there was his son. Bronny James—if he wants to stay longer after LeBron leaves, like, that’s your teammate. That’s what was surprising. Bronny James should’ve been there. You’re the last guy on the roster—you should be there. It’s important.”

Fans had mixed reactions to Patrick's comments:
"That's on LeBron, he's clearly not giving his son good advice," a fan said.
Someone else added, "The press conference had nothing to do with them - they aren't the future much less the present of the Lakers."
Another person wrote, "lol kick rocks. hes golfing with his dad. its the offseason."
"Meh this is a nothingburger to me Dan... I expect this type of stuff out of ESPN not you," one more fan commented.
It’s important to note that LeBron and Bronny James weren’t the only Lakers players absent from the press conference. Other roster members—including free-agent signing Jake LaRavia, Austin Reaves, Dalton Knecht, and Jarred Vanderbilt—were also not seen in the media room or in any team-released photos from the event.
Additionally, over the weekend, LeBron revealed via his Instagram Story that he was golfing with Bronny.
