Los Angeles Lakers fans were irrationally upset over Danny Green's missed three-pointer in Game 5 of the NBA Finals against the Miami Heat.
Green had a chance to win the Lakers their 17th championship on Friday night, but he missed on a wide-open three-point attempt in the dying moments of the game. Any normal fan would accept the loss; after all, players do miss shots. However, some fans took their criticism of Green to the extreme, sending death threats to his fiancee via social media.
While speaking ahead of Game 6 on Sunday, Green discussed the threats he and his fiancee received after the missed shot. He used the opportunity to encourage people to vote and speak out against racial injustice.
Danny Green on the fans who've made death threats against him & his fiancé after his missed shot: "I hope they're that passionate about voting, or injustice for these people who deserve justice - we'll get some better change in the country." Throughout the 2020 playoffs, Green has shot 33.3 percent from beyond the arc but just couldn't capitalize on the open look in Game 5. The Lakers, however, did have another opportunity to seal the deal by snagging the rebound, but Markieff Morris turned the ball over, leading to free throws for Tyler Herro at the other end of the court.
The Lakers remain just one win away from winning their first title since 2010. They'll be looking to close out the series on Sunday in Game 6, but Jimmy Butler and the Heat very well could push a Game 7...which is something no one thought they'd be able to do early on in this series.
