The Sixers recently opened up a roster spot and will likely add a player in the coming days. Darius Miller should absolutely be that player.

After waiving forward Ignas Brazdeikis, the Philadelphia 76ers find themselves with an open roster spot just six weeks before the start of the playoffs. There are a few different names out there that the team should target but the player above all others that the Sixers should sign is Darius Miller.

Recently waived by the Oklahoma City Thunder, it’s likely that Miller may be an unfamiliar name to many fans as he hasn’t exactly been around much lately. He missed all of last season due to a torn Achilles. An injury such as that is certainly a cause for concern but after returning this season, he looks like his old self, maybe even better.

Miller has never been a star or even a featured player but he’s certainly a useful one. He’s made his three-point shot a focal point over his career and it’s paid off. A career 38.3% shooter from deep, Miller has shown a clear and proven talent for stretching the court and wouldn’t have any problem fitting in with the offense.

His corner presence in particular has been very impressive. Miller has shot at least 42.9% from the corner this year and during the 2017-18 season (his best year), he shot an incredible 55.7%. He is also skilled in catch-and-shoot scenarios which would make him a perfect fit next to both Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons. Miller is currently shooting 42.3% from deep in catch-and-shoot situations.

No the majority of the fanbase has clamored for a stretch big but frankly, there aren’t too many great options out there. Darius Miller, though only 6’6″ could help solve that problem as he has plenty of experience playing an undersized power forward.

Miller actually played 60% of his minutes at power forward for the New Orleans Pelicans during the 2017-18 season which, once again, was his best season as a pro. A return to that spot and with the surrounding talent the Sixers already employ, Miller has the chance to prove to be a contributor which is the most the Sixers can hope for given who’s available.

If Otto Porter Jr. or Mike Muscala (or any of the guys in Houston) shake loose then they would overtake Miller for the top spot, but until that happens (which it likely won’t), Miller is the obvious candidate to ride with moving forward.
