Daryl Morey doesn't plan to trade Embiid or Simmons: 'Joel and Ben will be here for a long time'

Daryl Morey has already started making moves to transform the Philadelphia 76ers' roster to his liking, but he says he has no plans to trade away Ben Simmons or Joel Embiid as he continues to shake things up in Philly.

"Joel and Ben will be here for a long time," Morey told reporters.

Since being named the 76ers' president of basketball operations, there has been speculation that Morey may try and ship off one of his young stars, both of whom would surely generate a ton of interest on the trade market.

And with Morey's former superstar James Harden wanting out of Houston, many wondered if Morey would try and acquire the former MVP, which would almost assuredly involve Embiid or Simmons. But Morey's strategy seems to be building around the two rather than splitting them up.

"We have two young superstars in their prime and you want to build around them," Morey said.

Morey has already begun his new roster construction, trading away Al Horford and Josh Richardson in exchange for Danny Green and Seth Curry, respectively. The two sharpshooters should help space the floor for the 76ers, which proved to be a critical issue for the team last season.

But anyone who thinks that the 76ers are done making moves doesn't know Morey, as he is most likely in the metaphorical lab trying to cook up another trade or two to help Philadelphia compete in the Eastern Conference, which looks to be much-improved with the Bucks adding Jrue Holiday, along with the Nets having Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving healthy and ready to compete.
