This has not been the start to a playoff series the Oklahoma City Thunder would've hoped for. Oklahoma City's poor late-game execution down the stretch of Game 1 of their second-round series against Denver cost them the series opener in the Paycom Center.
After a bounce-back blowout Game 2 win, the late-game issues plagued the Thunder yet again as the offense labored its way to 104 points in a game that not only went to overtime but one that Oklahoma City chucked up 15 more shots than Denver.
In its two late-game losses, the Oklahoma City Thunder looked every bit their age –– the youngest squad in the NBA Playoffs –– A spot that throughout NBA history teams have always been forced to take their lumps.
“We were young once. We handled it pretty well, and they do too. … the scary part is, the more experience they get in those games, the better they’re gonna be at them," Adelman said at practice on Saturday afternoon.
The margins are slim in the playoffs. You can view the first three games any which way you want, the ultimate glass half full or half empty experience.
In a game where everything went wrong for the OKC Thunder, they took the Nuggets to overtime as Denver shot 40% from distance to the tune of seven more triples falling than OKC netted.
The only option right now for the Bricktown Ballers is to stay the course and keep competing. There should be a lot of basketball left to be played.
Game 4 will put the Thunder's season to the test. This 68-win club that has made a plethora of history along the way, now their backs are against the wall heading into Sunday. Tying this series at two games each puts the Thunder in a prime position to outlast Denver. A loss? Then, it's getting late early.
Adelman was asked how dangerous OKC can be with its comparative lack of experience:
