David Dennis Jr. Doesn't Hesitate When Naming Best Player in the NBA, 'The Dude Is...'

Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic continues to impress NBA fans.

He's averaging more points and assists than any of his three MVP seasons and more rebounds in all but one. He's taken home the award in three of the last four seasons.

As if he couldn't become a more dangerous offensive player, Jokic's 3-point percentage is up 8.4 percentage points from last season and good enough for the fourth-best in the league.

Despite logging better stats, Jokic is still considerably behind Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to win the award.

Gilgeous-Alexander had a stellar game in a 137-128 win over the Houston Rockets on Tuesday, scoring 51 points, his fourth 50-plus point game of the season.

No other player in the league has more than one 50-point game this season.

While Alexander might be the one who takes home the hardware for the NBA's Most Valuable Player, not everyone is on board with calling him the best player in the league.

David Dennis Jr. is emphatic on who the league's best player is

ESPN's NBA Today began to discuss Gilgeous-Alexander as one of, if not the best player in the NBA.

While Kendrick Perkins said he's the league's best perimeter player, David Dennis Jr. didn't mince his opinion on the subject.

"To me, the best player in the league is Jokic," Dennis Jr. said. "He's averaging a triple-double, 29 points, 13 rebounds essentially, 10 assists and shooting 44% from three. The dude is a one-man offense for that Nuggets team."

Dennis Jr. then emphatically doubled down on the take.

"Not only is Jokic the best player in the league, the gap between No. 1 and No. 2 is as wide of a margin as we've seen since Lebron James with the Heat or since maybe [Michael] Jordan's era," Dennis Jr. said. "Jokic is on an island by himself putting up Wilt [Chamberlain] numbers in this era of the NBA."

While Gilgeous-Alexander is getting much of the buzz and attention, it's hard to look past Jokic.

Take Gilgeous-Alexander off the Thunder, and they're still likely a playoff team. Take Jokic's contributions away from the Nuggets; they're likely a lottery team.

Jokic could still take home the trophy, but it would take quite the run in the season's last 21 games while also needing a stumble from the Thunder and Gilgeous-Alexander.
